Since I joined the Anytime Tennis Club a few months ago, I’ve found that there have been three traits of the group which have made being a member worthwhile: attitude, skill level, and cost. First and foremost, Anytime Tennis has been a comfortable and friendly group to play with.
Though everybody plays hard, the atmosphere is relaxed and positive. Richard King, the organizer of Anytime Tennis Club, has gone out of his way to recruit classy players and cultivate a positive atmosphere. Similarly, he does a good job of matching players of similar skill levels and complementary play styles, so I can count on Anytime Tennis meetups to be very challenging, but the matches are always winnable if I can focus hard and play my best game. While getting thrashed is often a good learning experience it is rarely any fun, just as playing a brand new player can be frustrating. Richard makes sure that neither happens to us (though I recall getting stomped in a singles set against him).
Finally, Anytime Tennis Club does cost a nominal fee. I’ve had enough experiences driving around to find an unoccupied tennis court only to never find one or at the very least waste a lot of fuel and time. I’ve probably more than recouped the cost of the fee in would-be gas expenses, pay-court fees, or country club fees because Richard will get there early to save a court for us.
While we’re all expected to bring cans of balls, Richard generally contributes more than his fair share of those, too. In summary, I’d say Anytime Tennis is perfect for people of just about any level who want to improve their game, need a flexible schedule, and prefer a relaxed and positive atmosphere.
